WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN INDIA
Rural women in Asia are among the most disadvantaged people in the world in terms of decision-making power and access to development opportunities. Education is the most influential tool to raise the status of women in developing countries, and once a woman perceives herself as belonging to a group – of students or workers (outside the family) she starts to see herself as a worthy and valuable contributor in society. This increases self-worth and paves the way for the eradication of gender inequalities. Volunteer for the women empowerment project in India. Through offering education and training activities to women and girls in Dharamsala town. You will be equipping them with tools that they can use to uplift their standards of living. Women do not have the same opportunities in rural India as they might in the Western world. For that reason, iSpiice has set up Women’s Empowerment groups in local communities where volunteers teach basic English & basic computer skills to find employment and improve their circumstances. Most of the women are housewives who did not get a chance to finish their education due to early marriage.
Some of the skills that are imparted in these training sessions include Teaching basic English, computer skills, internet, email writing, writing skills, CV writing, job application, and interviewing skills among others. Women empowerment program also offer you the opportunity to teach young girls & children at the age from 6 to 13 years old. This program makes an excellent opportunity for volunteers to work with both women & children in one program because most of the children that come to our center are the children of the women and it is better for the young ones to be with their mothers. As a volunteer in a women’s empowerment program, you will not only have a chance to impart skills and knowledge but also an opportunity to interact with rural women.
KEY POINTS FOR VOLUNTEERS:
• Be a volunteer for the women empowerment project in India, work on women’s rights, and contribute effectively towards the lives of the underprivileged ladies without any TEFL qualification or teaching experience.
• Whether you are teaching English language, email writing or interview skills your time spent with the ladies will be some of your most enjoyable moments in India. Classes are thoroughly enjoyed by the ladies and not only do the ladies learn from volunteers but volunteers learn so much about the ladies daily lives and Indian culture, forming mutual understandings, friendships and fond memories.
• Work in small groups developing educational activities for local ladies. Teach English and IT skills and share your experiences and skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise prospects for women in rural India and to learn about the women’s daily lives.
