STREET CHILDREN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN INDIA
India is home to the world’s largest population of children for whom the street, in the widest sense of the word, is both their home and source of livelihood. Street children lives in a community which is located at the edge of town where families have relocated from Rajasthan state in the west of India looking for work opportunities. The children rely on fragile strategies for survival with inadequate adult supervision and limited opportunities for education and play. The ‘rag children’ as they are locally known are at risk of exploitation and live hand to mouth each day collecting plastics and metals to sell on for a meager income. Our mission is to provide them education and many activities which a child needs for his growth including care and protect their childhood rights. Spend some quality time and contribute for the overall development and welfare of unfortunate children. Volunteers can assist in providing love, care, basic literacy, recreation and most importantly spend time and shower affection on them.
As a volunteer, your services will go a long way in improving the livelihood of these children. There are teaching opportunities where the volunteers can teach basic English, math, playing recreational and fun games, while introducing them to different and new activities. It is an exciting program that engages the volunteers fully and also imparts skills that no classroom can teach.
KEY POINTS FOR VOLUNTEERS:
• Encourage children on basic life skills such as dressing, manners, health, and hygiene. As a volunteer you’ll help in aspects like education, organizing fun games and keeping children entertained.
