Education is a powerful tool that can transform lives and break the cycle of poverty. By teaching and assisting at a school in India, you have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of students who may not have access to quality education otherwise. Through your dedication and passion, you can inspire young minds, instill confidence, and equip them with essential skills for their future. In addition to academic subjects, you can also contribute to their personal development by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. By nurturing these qualities, you empower students to become independent learners and active participants in their communities, paving the way for a brighter future.

Volunteer Teaching in a foreign country, especially one as diverse as India, comes with its own set of challenges. Language barriers, varying teaching methods, and cultural differences may initially pose obstacles. However, with an open mind and willingness to adapt, these challenges can be overcome. Language proficiency is crucial when teaching in India. While English is widely spoken, especially in urban areas, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the local language to effectively communicate with students and their families. Learning basic phrases and expressions will not only facilitate classroom interactions but also demonstrate your commitment to understanding and embracing the local culture. Cultural differences may also require adjustments in your teaching approach. Indian classrooms often prioritize rote learning and respect for authority. However, incorporating interactive and student-centered teaching methods can enhance engagement and foster critical thinking skills. Collaborating with local teachers and seeking their guidance will help you navigate these challenges and create a harmonious learning environment.

Teaching and assisting at a school in India can be a steppingstone towards building sustainable partnerships and leaving a long-term impact. By working closely with local teachers and school administrators, you can contribute to capacity building initiatives that enhance the overall quality of education in the community. Furthermore, sharing your knowledge and experiences with fellow teachers can create a ripple effect, inspiring them to adopt innovative teaching methods and approaches. This collaborative approach ensures that your efforts extend beyond your time at the school, leaving a lasting legacy that benefits future generations of students. Teaching and assisting at a school in India provide a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students while immersing yourself in a vibrant and diverse culture. Through cultural exchange, impactful education, overcoming challenges, and building sustainable partnerships, you can contribute to shaping a brighter future for the students and the community as a whole. Embrace this enriching experience, and together, let us empower education for a better tomorrow.

Volunteer Review by Romaine, France

Doing for the first time a volunteer abroad as a seventeen-year-old French girl. I am still learning how to speak English well. Indeed, it is really open to every age and different level of English.
Because without knowing exactly how this trip would look like it could be easy to worry about so many things. For example, would communication be complicated? Would it be hard to be around people that are much older? or else How to be sure to behave well without knowing precisely the codes of Indian culture?

And at the end everything was just perfect. Indeed, the language doesn’t matter so much because you always find a way to communicate with at least one person who understands English. Also, all the people are very present for you if you need anything.

Everyone is kind and open-minded. Local people are very friendly and interested in learning and sharing their culture.
So if you might need to take one thing from this review is just to be confident about this program and that will just bring you so much enriching and improving skills.

Ps: In addition to all of that, I really want to mention how enlightening this experience is! Spending time with Indian people for 4 weeks and being really immersed in their daily life made this trip more memorable because you truly discovered Indian culture. Another thing that is excellent is the different trips we have the possibility to do because they can teach you so much. So, I really recommend you try the trek in the Himalaya and also the visit to the Taj Mahal 🙂

There are two parts to the program I did. The first is the day-to-day in a rural Indian Village in the Himalayas. From Mon-Fri you will spend 4 hours a day teaching, playing, and impacting people in the community, for the rest of the time you can explore the mountains, the different cities (30 min from Dalai Lama and Dharamsala), or just relax and take in the peaceful ambience of the private volunteer terrace. The other part is the excursions, of which they offer many. From the Ganges to the Golden Temple and the Himalayas to the Taj Mahal, each one can touch your soul in a different way.

Lastly, to me, the good hearts and good minds of the people here make this a great choice of program to truly experience India.
