Manali Adventure Cost – $275

River Beas

While at Volunteer work overseas India, you can travel by private car (on a free weekend) with an iSpiice staff member to Manali, in Central Himachal Pradesh. The landscape here is breath taking – with super views of the well defined snow capped mountains, Rohtang La Mountain, the fast flowing and clear Rives Beas, fruit orchards and pine tree forests. The area attracts all walks of life including hippie backpackers, adventure tourists and Indian honeymooners – the mixture of people adds to the fun of the area.

Volunteers unwind during the 7 hour drive – taking in the lush vegetation, mountain views, rice paddies, clear stunning river and stopping for must have photos along the way. To add to the ‘mountain vibe’ volunteers will stay in comfortable Mountain Cottages, overlooking the mountains and town.

The Golden Temple Cost – $175

Golden Temple Amritsar

iSpiice offers a weekend Add On Tour of Amritsar in the state of Punjab (on the Pakistan border), visiting the world famous Golden Temple,the Wagah border and Jalianwallah Bagh gardens.

The Golden Temple is the most important site for followers of the Sikh religion and the serene waters surrounding the temple,known as ‘The Pool of Nectar’ even gave Amritsar its name (Amrit-sarovar). The Temple is testament to Sikh hospitality as 45,000 people are given a meal for free in the Temple grounds each day, prepared by 1500 volunteers. The Temple complex has four entrances
instead of the usual single entry and this symbolizes the openness of Sikhism, indicating that followers of all faiths are allowed inside.

The Wagah border is the only functioning border crossing into Pakistan and before sundown, and as the gates close for the day, it is the venue for the guard ceremony of the Indian and Pakistani army. Crowds gather here to witness its theatrics and the party-like atmosphere is the perfect way to start off your trip in Punjab.

Volunteers visit the Jallianwala Bagh memorial gardens where, in 1919 10,000 Indians were fired upon by British soldiers during peaceful protest. This was an extremely significant event in Indian history adding fuel to the fire in the fight against British rule and a visit to these gardens are testament to India’s struggle for freedom.


Taj Mahal Agra

3 Day – 4 night tour (Golden Triangle tour) of Jaipur combine with Taj Mahal tour in Agra also known as the Pink City, Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. Every day number of tourists come to visit glorious Jaipur city. The town has its own historical and creative attraction that attracts people from all over the world to visit. The monuments of Jaipur is famous all over the world. The tradition and culture of the city is the main centre of attraction. This add-on tour is offered at end of all programs and includes return travel to Delhi, one night hotel accommodation in Delhi and drop off to Delhi airport. (If required depending on flight departure timings an iSpiice staff member will be with you along the way)

Trip Highlights:

Agra – Visit the Taj Mahal – a masterpiece of shimmering white marble set amid beautiful formal gardens, Built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial to his wife Mumtaz.

Visit Agra Fort – On the banks of the Yamuna river. Built in 1565 by Emperor Akbar, the fort was originally designed to be a military structure. It was converted to a palace Emperor Shah Jahan’s time and eventually became his prison after he lost power in 1658.

The Himalayan Trek Cost – $100

Spend a weekend in the midst of nature, amongst the breathtaking Himalayan Mountains. iSpiice offers a 2 day (1 night) trek in the Himalayas. The Himalayas are home to the highest mountain in the world and catching sight of her towering peaks are inspiration to aim high. The trek is popular with adventure tourists and a migratory route for local shepherds.

Once at the top (2975 m)you are eye level with the laka snowline – one of the lowest snow lines in the Himalayan range. Take the opportunity to explore the mountain top while it is still bright and enjoy a glorious sun set from the top of the world. As night falls gather round the campfire to sing songs and exchange stories before retiring to bed in tenting or guesthouse accommodation. The following day wake early to catch the sun rise (over a nice warm cup of chai), enjoy a mountain top breakfast and begin your descent.

After the trek there is some free time in McLeod Ganj to visit Dalai lama Temple or Bhagsu Nag for shopping, eating out and relaxing.

*Volunteers trek for 4-6 hours each day and it is suitable for all levels, those who are finding it more difficult take it at a slower pace and there are plenty of rest stops and Himalayan tea-houses along the way.

*You must inform staff at iSpiice volunteer house before if you have any health problems which may affect your ability to complete the trek (asthma, heart problems, leg or back problems).

The Taj Mahal Cost – $250

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Taj Mahal is hailed as an emblem of love. Standing tall on the southern bank of River Yamuna, the shimmering white marble tomb is the finest of the Mughal architecture. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built this mausoleum in the memory of Mumtaz Mahal, his Queen and the most beloved of his three wives. Mumtaz Mahal died giving birth to their fourteenth child. The Taj Mahal is a truly awe inspiring sight that is beyond adequate description and not to be missed by anyone who is volunteering or travelling in India. After visiting the Taj Mahal enjoy free time in Agra and visit Agra Fort nearby or indulge in some last minute shopping.
